It’s more than just a celebration: your wedding is a celebration of your love, and the first day of Ever After. Choosing flowers which express your emotions on this day is a task which should receive much thought.

1. Go With Your Style

You’ve already chosen a location, a gown for yourself, dresses for your honored attendants, stationary, shoes, jewelry. Your flowers should seamlessly continue your style, whether formal, vibrant, ornate, whimsical, sentimental, or restrained elegance.

2. Color

Of course color is important. A monochromatic scheme is most formal, with white on white being the far extreme for formal weddings. However, more vibrant schemes can still give a nod toward formality in designs and flower form, yet express the personality of the bride and groom.

Season is another consideration.

  • Fall weddings glow in the rich hues of ripening fruits: red, amber, plum, gold, and scarlet. Chocolate is the go-to color of the season.
  • Winter weddings are lovely in whites of winter, or sparkle with soft blues, pinks, purples. Black and white weddings are gorgeous this time of year.
  • Spring weddings can burst with color, or approach color subtly in the pastels: yellow and white, green and white, pinks whether soft or hot, or mixed, green and purple of all shades.
  • Summer weddings rejoice in a full range of colors, and bountiful foliage textures. Try berries and roses in shades of red, bright coral with lime, purple, and red, or try monochromatic deep pink.

3. Go With What You Love

It’s your day, so choose your favorites! Many flowers are now available year round, so you can choose that sentimental rose which your groom brought you on your first date, or the daisies growing in the field where he proposed.

4. Honor the Special People in Your Life

Your Mom. Your best friend. Of course these people, and many others, have a place of honor on your day. Choose flowers for them specifically, yet within your color and style scheme. I always tailor corsages to specific details of the honored person, such as dress style (for strapless or fragile, go with wrist corsage) and color (we don’t want a red rose on a pink Grandmother’s dress). Do you want each bridesmaid to carry a different type of flower, in matching hues? Have some fun with your choices; these flowers are gifts that you give your loved ones.

5. Beyond the Wedding Party

Flowers bring life and beauty to a reception venue. What would a white-clothed table be without the crowning flowers that grace it? From magnificent arrangements, to budget stretching beauties, these are the flowers that give your chapel, wedding arch, or gazebo, cake table, head table, and guest tables their pazazz and set the tone of your day. Give lots of attention to your music, lighting, and flowers, and it will be a beautiful day.
